Event: The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that the following areas in Colombo will be affected with multiple road closures and delays from January 31 through February 04 due to the National Day parade and related activities.

Thursday through Sunday, January 31 through February 4

Closed 7am to 12noon:

  • Galle Road between Galle Face roundabout and Old Parliament roundabout

 Monday, February 4 (Independence Day)

Closed 5am to 12noon:

  • Galle Road between Galle Face roundabout and Old Parliament roundabout

Closed 7am to 12noon (open only to neighborhood residents):

  • Galle Road from Colpetty junction to Galle Face Roundabout
  • Entrance to Galle road from the St. Michaels roundabout
  • Entrance to Galle Road from the Rotunda Gardens roundabout
  • Entrance toward old parliament from Ceramic junction

Closed 7am to 12noon:

  • Entrance from York Street to Bank of Ceylon
  • Entrance from Ceynor junction to Fort CTO junction
  • Entrance to Ceramic Junction from the CTO junction
  • Entrance to Galle Face from Marcan Marker Uththarananda Mawatha junction

Closed 8am to 12noon:

  • Entrance to D. R. Wijeywardena Mawatha from Gamini Roundabout
  • Entrance to Eagle Junction from the Slave Island Police Roundabout

Actions to Take:

  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Keep a low profile.
