Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Colombo, Sri Lanka (January 30, 2020)

Location:  Colombo 03, Colombo 07, Sri Lanka

 

Event: The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that the following areas in Colombo will be affected with multiple road closures and delays from January 31 through February 04 due to the National Day parade to be held in Independence square on February 04, 2020 and related activities. Vehicular movement will be restricted in the areas listed below from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and heavy traffic can be expected in and around the following areas.

 

 

Road Closures

1. The road from Library Roundabout to Horton Roundabout will be closed.

2. F.R Senanayake Mawatha will be closed from Kannangara Mawatha junction and Dharmapala Mawatha junction.

3. The road leading to Kannangara Mawatha from Zoysa roundabout will be closed.

4. The road from Nanda Motors Junction towards Nelum Pokuna Roundabout will be closed.

 

 

Actions to Take:

•        Avoid the areas surrounding road closures.

•        Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or

          Protests.

•        Monitor local media for updates.

•        Be aware of your surroundings.

•        Keep a low profile
