The protesters will gather near the University of the Visual and Performing Arts grounds on Albert Crescent at 2 p.m and are expected to travel to either the Presidential Secretariat, Kolpetty Junction, or the University Grants Commission. Prior demonstrations by this group have resulted in the deployment of water cannons and tear gas near the Presidential Secretariat. Traffic delays from this protest and earlier protests in the area are expected.
Actions to Take: The Embassy reminds citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
