Location: U.S. Embassy and the vicinity of Galle Face Green, Colombo 01, Sri Lanka.
Event:
The U.S. Embassy will close to the public at 11:00 a.m. on October 10, 2019 due to a large political rally scheduled to be held on Galle Face Green later that day. The Consular section will contact individuals with afternoon visa appointments to reschedule. The American Center will be closed all day on October 10, 2019. We will resume normal operations on October 11, 2019.
Rally participants are expected to begin arriving at Galle Face Green as early as 0900 and police expect very heavy traffic in the Colombo Fort, Pettah, Slave Island, and Kullupitiya areas with road closures around Galle Face Green.
Actions to Take:
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Keep a low profile.
