The U.S. Embassy has received information of a planned protest march starting between 10:30 am and 12:00 noon from the University of Colombo to the University Grants Commission, Colombo 7. About 1,500 individuals are expected to attend the protest march. Please avoid the areas of the protest march and expect heavy police presence and traffic congestion.
We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent. Please exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations; monitor media coverage of local events; and be aware of surroundings at all times.
