The U.S. Embassy has received information regarding a demonstration to be held at Hyde Park in Colombo 2 starting at 3:00 pm. Protesters are expected to start gathering at 2:00 p.m. at two locations, the first near Ananda Coomarswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7 and the second near Zahira College, Maradana. Please avoid the areas of demonstrations and expect heavy police presence and traffic congestion.
We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent. Please exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations; monitor media coverage of local events; and be aware of surroundings at all times.
