The U.S. Embassy has been notified of an expected protest today at 1300 at Galle Face Green. The Embassy has also received word that a separate group will be gathering in the Maligawatte area at 1300 to march to Galle Face Green, possibly to join up with the first group. Expect heavy traffic and congestion in these areas.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
