The Embassy has received reports of a planned protest at about 11:00 a.m. today outside the U.S. Embassy, Colombo 3. Expect a heavy police presence and intermittent road closures around the U.S. Embassy. U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the area during the demonstration.
We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent. Please exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations, monitor media coverage of local events and be aware of surroundings at all times.
