The Embassy has received reports that multiple demonstrations have been planned in various parts of Colombo for this afternoon. The exact time and venues of protests are unknown. We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent. Expect heavy police presence and severe congestion in areas around protests. U.S. citizens are advised to monitor local media, avoid protest areas, exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations and be aware of surroundings at all times.
