Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka
Event: Multiple unions, associations, and groups have called for strikes and protests today (March 1, 2023). These protests are expected to begin from around 10 AM. Some of the protests could be large, but currently appear to be focused on the relevant office or place of work rather than public spaces. The locations of protests, however, are always subject to change.
Even peaceful demonstrations can quickly turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
Actions to Take:
· Avoid areas of rallies or demonstrations.
· Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
· Monitor local media for updates.
· Keep a low profile.
